At the last council meeting, the question of re-opening the car boot on a Wednesday was discussed. The government’s COVID 19 regulations have defined car boots as events or activities, not as retail or outside markets. They can now re-open, but with a maximum number of 50 people involved. Given that our car boot attracts considerably more people than this, it would be illegal to re-open at this time. In addition a risk assessment has to be undertaken and mitigation put in place, which includes a barriered one way system and social distancing measures including queing, masks and sanitising stations.
In the circumstances the council decided that it could not open the car boot, but will consider its options every month as the situation was fluid.
